The ingredients needed to make Refried Beans:
  1. Make ready 4 cup cooked/canned beans (either red, black or pinto)
  2. Take 3 tbsp fat for sauteing (butter, coconut oil, lard/beef drippings)
  3. Make ready 1 cup onion, chopped
  4. Get 5 clove minced garlic
  5. Take 2 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  6. Get 2 tsp paprika

  10. Prepare 1 milk, water or bean broth, as needed
Steps to make Refried Beans:
  1. In large pot, saute onions in fat until translucent.
  2. Add garlic & cook an additional 1-2 minutes
  3. Add beans and milk as needed for desired consistency (more for thinner paste, less for thicker paste)
  4. Stir in all spices & bring to a slow simmer.
  5. Cook on low heat for 10-20 minutes stirring occasionally. Add a splash more milk if it cooks down too much
  6. Once it has cooked down enough & the spices have had enough time for the flavors to infuse, mash beans with a potato masher, fork, immersion blender, etc.
  7. Serve on burritos, with rice, in a taco salad, whatever you fancy!
